My husband and I have been saying we'd like to get a few chickens for eggs and meat, a coupla of pigs, and maybe a cow for beef for the last 6 months or so. We live in a small town, but my husband is part family owner of some farm land about a mile from town. Ive been researching homesteading and other ways to be more self sufficient, and I'm learning how to can food this summer. Been very busy with our garden and locally grown fruits. I found this site Saturday night and was reading for hours. Sunday morning a facebook friend posted pics of her new baby chicks and immediately contacted her. And we were able to purchase our first lil babies Monday night. We are so excited. We have 3 Welsummers and 6 French Marans, just for eggs at this time. They are adorable.
