Hi, I'm Theresa, and I am a brand new chick mom. I rescued three chicks from an elementary school and one of them has spraddle leg. Or had it. She can't walk, she leans to her right. I have never had chicks, or even birds before. So I want to learn how to care for them properly and also hopefully rehabilitate Baby Girl so she can learn to walk.

Hiya, Theresa, and welcome to BYC!! :frow

How old are your chicks? The younger the better to cure the spraddle legs. It's called by a few names like splayed legs, but if you search either you'll see tons of ways on BYC.

I used Vet Wrap for the couple that I've had. You just need to bind its legs together so they are the distance apart they should be. Normally, with just a couple day old chick it takes 2-3 days. If it's older it will take longer.

Here's one article where they used a bandaid like I used the Vet Wrap, same principle:

Hi Debbie

Her legs aren't too far apart, but she cannot stand on them. She uses both of them to scratch, she just seems to be lopsided

Thanks Debbie!

They are two weeks old. The spraddle leg isn't bad, it's barely noticeable, but she seems to be unable to balance herself. She leans back and left. She stands fine when I am balancing her. I feel like I'm teaching her how to ride a bike. But I can't hold her all day long. I built a corral for her but she won't stay in it. I want to make her a wheelchair, but I would rather rehabilitate her and help her to walk on her own. Is it too late? The vet wanted to euthanize her. I was appalled.
