Hello from Illinois,

I moved further downstate in November to somewhere where I am finally allowed to have chickens.
I currently have nine 5-week old chickens in the house. Got them as day old chicks in the mail. Ordered 8 different breeds and they sent one bonus chick. I can have roosters but hoping they are all hens.

Coop and covered run aren't done yet. Hope to get it done soon as they are getting too big for the house.

Lots of predators nearby. I have seen coyotes, foxes, and racoons in my yard. Heard from someone with a local farm that minks get more of his chickens than anything else.

Hello and welcome to BYC!

Congrats on your new chicks! If you have any that you think might be males, you can start a thread in our What Breed and Gender forums for help... https://www.backyardchickens.com/forums/what-breed-or-gender-is-this.15/

Predators are brutal. Definitely over build your coop and run, day and night time marauders are very persistent for a meal.

Welcome to our community!
