New chicken family in Kansas

Hello, I am new to chickens. We just got some and I love them. They are so cute. I am looking to raise them for eggs and for my kids to show in 4-h. Any advice to a new person as far as raising them will be appreciated. I already have a coop but was told that they need to be inside for the first month under a heart lamp since they are babies still.

Hi welcome to BYC you will find several great helpers here. No advice except enjoy them and be ready to expand cause they are addicting. Yes under a heat lamp for about first 4-6 weeks depending on the temperature where you are. If you live in an extremely cold climate they will need the light a little longer. generally once they are fully feathered out (6-8 weeks) you can give them gradual exposure to the coop and outdoor run
