My name is Cindy and my family was given 5 chickens about a month ago. We had 4 white leghorn hens and 1 white Wyandotte hen. About a week ago, on a Saturday afternoon, 3 hens went missing with no sign of attack. Not a single feather in the yard. On Sunday afternoon, we spotted a large coyote in our yard looking at the 2 remaining hens. We quickly ran him off and found a neighbor selling a rooster and 4 hens so we just added them yesterday.
Now we have 1 Dominique Rooster and 6 hens; 2 white leghorns, 3 Rhode island reds, and 1 unidentified hen.
I found this website while doing research on how to take care of my girls and I have been addicted to this site ever since. It is full of friendly advice and it's obvious that everyone wants you to be a successful chicken owner.
My husband and I have 2 children that keep us busy. My son plays Lacrosse and my daughter rides horses. She is an animal lover and actually was the one who was given our first chickens. We do have 2 dogs and live on acreage outside of the OKC metro. I have a few neighbors with chickens also, so it has been nice to find common ground with them.
