Hi Everyone, My wife and I recently decided to raise some Layers, (kind of gearing up for a little survival mentality with things as they are in the world economy). We purchased 6 Rhody pullets but lost two, (we won't go into dogs and chickens). Our girls are about 4 months old now and one has begun laying eggs, but they are quite small, just a little bigger than banty eggs. Is this normal for young layers? The eggs are perfect, just small. We are free ranging the ladies and find they are a lot like kids. they make messes but don't clean up.

We really appreciate the wealth of knowledge found on Backyard Chickens...it has been very helpful to us as we get started.

Welcome to BYC! The small eggs are perfectly normal and will get bigger as the pullet continues to lay. Good luck to you.
