New chicken feeding habits.

I was gifted a lovely 12 week old coronation sussex. She thoroughly enjoys pecking and foraging around the yard and will eat grain mix that I scatter. However, she doesn’t seem to understand the concept of eating from a bowl or eating chicken feed - she looks right past it and goes back to foraging. So I’m scattering some feed, some grain and some meal worms just so she eats - but I’d obviously prefer if her main diet was the grower feed that my other girls eat. I’m guessing she predominantly free ranged (she was on a farm on acreage). Do you have any ideas for how I can get her feeding on chicken feed? Thanks in advance.

At the moment she's probably intimidated by your other girls and feeding stations can be an area where new comers are bullied. You might have to set up multiple feeding stations and wait for her to become a bit more confident of her place in the flock.

Or she might have to learn from your other girls that feeding stations are a source of food and eventually she'll copy what they do.

Coronation Sussex are gorgeous. 🥰

Hmm yes, my girls are being less than hospitable!! But, I’ve set her up with her own little coop with food and water - she goes for the water but right by the feed. Perhaps she just needs time to settle in.
