Hi everyone! I'm so glad I found this site! I've been wanting to keep chickens since I was 10 (21 now) and have finally convinced my mom to be okay with it. Made a deal, find a home for a stray I'm caring for and can get chickens, but I have to build the coop.
I'm hoping to get an EE and a wyandotte or orpington. For now it'll just be two, but I'm planning on eventually having 4-6.

I've spent the last few weeks obsessively reading both this forum and a few books I have on self-sufficancy/backyard homesteading, so I think I'm ready, but still won't be getting any until August.

one dog is my service dog
Hope to join the Army in a year or two. I'm aiming for 68W but gotta get my weight and run time down just a bit more and get home stuff stable.

Welcome to BYC! Glad you joined us!

Yeah. Having them is also part of the reason I'm waiting about two years. We want them for eggs and meat, so we figure two years is a good laying time and if she's able to care for them too (she has serious back problems) then after the two years we'll get more and she'll care for them, if not, we were planning to eat them anyway and won't get more till I come back.
