I relocated to AZ from NC two years ago and got my first set of 4 chickens last year. They are now a year old and so much fun, although I lost my silver wyandotte in the heat last year. I added 3 more pullets this year and am having fun watching them grow. Learning how to integrate them tho is interesting.
I also had a broody silkie easter egger and got a fertilized egg from a neighbor she hatched and raised - the pullet is about 8 weeks old now and momma is ferocious with my new pullets. I'd like to get her outside with the laying hens soon. The 3 new pullets have been in their own run for 3 weeks now but they all get pecked and picked on a lot by the existing flock and the momma hen.
Breeds I now have are: Welsummer, Biefelder, Silver Spitzhauben Appenzeller, Silkie Easter Egger, Bountiful Blue Egg Layer, 55 Flowery and one I rehomed that we think is a Buff Orpington. The one that hatched, I am not sure what breed it is. So I have 8 chickens, 3 of them are laying currently.
I love watching them during the day from my home office windows. I love how 3 of them come running when they hear the back door open. My Blue egg layer jumps on my lap for treats. They are really amazing and fun. I call them my girl friends - since moving to a smaller town in AZ, I have not made new lady pals here so they fill that gap for me lol.
I have 2 dogs - havanese and no other animals. I am grateful I can have dogs with hair and that chickens don't affect the environmental asthma and allergies. The omlet coop truly is a life saver for me - easy to clean and my run is low dust. Living in a very low humidity environment - the desert - has been a life saver too.
I am a Relationship Communication Coach and Healer and a project manager - so that keeps me busy too.
