Hello I finally convinced my husband to let me get chickens. When I was a little girl my grandparents had all kinds of critters including chickens. The more I learned about processed eggs the more I wanted my own chickens. The local feed store was having a promotional "baby chick" day and I got my first 6 chicks. Sadly one didn't make it. I Did find a place where I can get 1 to add about the same age. Right now I'm keeping them in my sunroom in a dog crate as a brooder. My husband will be building the coop soon. I have a horse and we will put the coop on the south side of the barn.

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! Congrats on your new chicks :celebrate Sorry to hear you lost one though :hugs Raising chicks is a wonderful experience, very fun and extremely rewarding. It's something I enjoy very much, I too have some new chicks that I hatched at the weekend. Good luck to your husband on getting the coop built I would suggest building bigger than you need as the chicken math can take over pretty quick!! Flocks grow so unexpectedly, mine certainly did.
I too have a horse called Harry, he is an ex race horse which I've had for 12 years now.

Be sure to ask any questions you may have, everyone here to help and very friendly.
Enjoy BYC and all the chicken chat :frow

Welcome to our flock!

Unfortunately, that sometimes happens, no matter how good of care you give them. Hope you can find a good replacement for the lost chick.

Good luck with your chicks! Raising baby chicks can be very exciting. Though I've raised them many times, it is still so much fun watching them grow up into beautiful adults!

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Sorry about the chick you lost :hugs good luck with the rest of the flock!

Welcome to BYC! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

My grandparents constantly had animals at their farm too. Cats, peacocks, chickens, dogs, turkeys and many more. It was because of them that I decided to get my own chickens and join BYC. Sadly they sold their farm last year

Thanks everyone!
I sure wish it would warm up here, today is in the low 40's. The chicks seem to be fine with the temperature 86/90 I don't have the thermometer directly under the lamp and they don't huddle directly under it. I wake up throughout the night and check it got cold last night and they were spralled out even though the temp was 84.
I only remember my grandma keeping chicks in the bathtub no fussing like what I'm going thru!
