Hi there,
I’m new here and thought I’d pop in and say hello! I’m in southern Ontario near Lake Erie. Just moved to my dream property and starting my own flock! This page has been a wealth of resources for me so far and hope to one day contribute.
See below my ‘get to know me’ questions and meet my starter flock. Feel free to chime in on guesses as to sex!
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Brand new! I got four, 1 week old babies back in December 2021. My little flock is about 9 weeks old!
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? 4 - what I suspect is a cockerel and 3 pullets!
(3) What breeds do you have?
Silkies. Well, I think one is a frizzle?!
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
The joy of watching their antics! And of course, connecting with nature/hopefully collecting eggs.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Writing, hiking, gardening, interior design, true crime docs.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I work in government as a public relations professional.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I found so many helpful threads in here while researching what I needed to start ny flock. Looking forward to connecting and sharing experiences!
Any guesses on sex?
1. Partridge Frizzle (?) pullet (?)
2. White pullet (?)
3. Buff/porcelain (???) pullet (?) – my favourite.
4. And finally… blue splash/silver partridge ????) cockerel (confirmed - he’s crowing!)

good looking silkies, I have 3 atm unsure of the sex as of yet, hatched them (incubator not me) about 17 weeks ago.
