Hi there! Just a new chicken mama here trying to learn all the things. Getting my day old chicks on May 6th. This is all new to me. I was lucky enough to be gifted a beautiful new coop from my parents for my birthday! It'll be delivered soon. It's a 5x7 and it's gorgeous. I'm trying to figure out now how to add a run to it. I'm researching options and there are so many, it's overwhelming. I have access to FREE 2x4's BUT they aren't pressure treated.

Here's my new coop! I'm SO EXCITED! I'm open to any tips, advice etc ..

Hello and welcome to BYC! Glad you joined.
The spec reads you can put 1 LF bird per 2 sq ft. That's way too tight. You shouldn't put more than 1 bird per 4 sq ft.
Have you considered using electrified poultry netting for your run enclosure?

Welcome to BYC. Just paint the non-pressure treated 2x4's. Nowadays they have combination primer and paint already mixed in the container.

Those space requirements are so wrong. I wouldn't put more than 4 to 6 standard size chickens in there.

Thank you for the warm welcome! We can only have 6 chickens in my town. I've been told that this size coop is fine for that many? I will have to look up electrified poultry netting.

Everywhere I look it says different specs etc for 6 birds. I wish businesses would post the correct info on their items So frustrating, especially being a newbie
