Hello All....

My name is Kelli and I am a stay at home wife, and recently lost my mother suddenly and I find therapy in my daily walks, talks and feedings with my chickens every day..... My husband purchased me an incubator and I want to try my hand at hatching my own chicks. I currently have 21 chickens, 4 roosters, and 17 hens. I am getting about 10-14 eggs a day from my hens and my fridge is overflowing. I have one brooder hen and she will lay approximately 15 eggs and will abandon them so therefore I am gonna try my luck at hatching them myself. I have a incubator that was purchased from tractor supply and I am looking for any advice that could be given to help me get started and to have somewhat a success. I am excited to find a forum to ask questions and share ideas with others that have the same interests as myself... I hope you all have a blessed day....
:)

Hello there and welcome to BYC! :frow

Sorry about your mom. :hugs Chickens make great therapy animals. It's so easy to become lost in their lives and allow you to let go of other things.

Good luck with your hatches, always rewarding. :jumpy

Make yourself at home here and welcome to our community! :-)

Hello, and welcome! Glad that you joined! Sorry about loosing your mom. If your fridge is overflowing, you could sell or give away some of the egg's to friend's or family. Hatching out your own chick's is exciting, but also addictive! I have become a hatch-a-holic! ;)

Hello, Kelli, and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
Sorry about your mom. That's tough. I lost my father quite suddenly too and it's a shock to the system that doesn't wear off quickly.
Good luck with your hatch.

:welcome

Hi Kelli, it's nice to have you here. Sorry about the loss of your mother, I'm glad you're finding some comfort with your flock.

Here's a link to take you to the Learning Center articles about hatching:

And we have a forum dedicated to incubating and hatching that will be helpful for answering questions:
Incubating & Hatching Eggs

Best of luck to you!
