(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I'm brand new! My husband, after we talked about it for a long time, got me a coop for Christmas, and our first li'l babies just came in today!
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Four! Our coop isn't huge, and this is our first time, so we're starting small.
(3) What breeds do you have?
Two easter-eggers, a golden-laced Wyandotte, and a Buff Orpington.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
As it's my first day actually having them, we'll come back to this. But as of right now, they're so DANG CUTE.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I love reading, writing, painting/drawing, and gardening. I'm also part of a women's pinball league!
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
My husband and I live in a neighborhood outside of a big city with our two cats. We have a pretty big backyard, where we have a raised bed, a 12' compost bin, and now a chicken coop/run! I'm a high school English teacher at an urban public school. I'm from the country, though, and I'm trying to bring parts of that life into my life now.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
A lot of the research I did before we got our chicks came from BYC. The forums have such specific, and friendly advice. I found it using a quick Google search.
