New chicken mama

I had chickens when I was a kid and loved them. I finally have delved back into getting them. I have 8 chicks right now that I’m sure some are going to be boys. I can’t have boys where I am but I do have a free range farm they can goto. I live in southern New Hampshire and Mom to 2 bipeds ages 18 and 21. 5 dogs. 3 ferrets and 2 bearded dragons. I love to read and play outside in the fresh air

I have 6 Cochin and 2 red producers. Which are mix of Rhode Island Red and nh red. I also have a few speckled Sussex om order.

Welcome to byc! Maybe you will get lucky and get few roosters or none. My mother is so lucky with straight run. She got 11/12 hens last year and I got 8/12 roosters...I do not share in her good fortune but maybe you will.

Nice! I have always wanted to add a speckled Sussex to my flock. They are so pretty. That's great that you already have a plan B in case you do end up with roosters. I really like sex-link breeds, like the red star (Delaware x Rhode Island Red)...eliminates the rooster issue and mine is sweet as honey.

Greetings and welcome to BYC! So glad you joined us. Hoping you get all pullets! There's a wealth of info, knowledge and experience shared in the multitude of threads. Browse around and see what interesting stuff you can find. By all means post away when the desire strikes you, especially if you have questions (provide as much detail/info as possible and pictures truly help)... With all the great folks here, generally someone will respond in no time at all. Please make yourself at home!

Oh, if you haven't done so already, PLEASE put at least your general location in your profile. It could be very important if/when you ask for or offer help or advice. You know, climate issues and such. I recommend at least your state as most folks won't be able to figure out where if you put anything more specific (county, town, street, etc) by itself. Old folks like me will never remember & look there first. To add it, mouse hover over Account top right and a drop down will appear. Click on Personal Details and scan down. You'll see the spot for Location. Then go to the bottom and save changes. Thanks! Hope you enjoy the site!
