New chicken mama

I have wanted chickens for quite a while but never had the guts to start up. Then out of no where a friend of mine asked me if I wanted to hens that needed a new home. One is a 6 month of Buff Orpington that has been laying for about a month and a 5 month Rhode Island Red that just started laying about a week after I received her. We are on 1 acre and they have plenty of space to roam during the day. I have them cooped at night and they have a large 12ft by 40 ft run when I don't let them out to free range.

I just got 7 female chicks (3 Barred Rock, 2 easter eggers and 2 Red Sex Linked). In addition, the guy I bought them from gave me an unsexed White Silkie. I have joined this site so I can read up on how to take care of my new family members and to ask questions if needed.

In addition to chickens we have 7 Sulcata Tortoises, 2 Desert Tortoises, one dog and one cat.

I look forward to learning from everyone here on this site.
