I'm a first time chicken Mama, our first chickies hatched 3 weeks ago. Never had chickens and still need to build a coop so any advice would be great on all accounts. We live in northern Minnesota so not exactly sure on coop....

so glad you joined us. And congrats on a successful hatch and getting your new chicks.

You do need to make decisions on the coop and get it started, they will be ready to move to the coop in a few weeks.

If you haven't already done so, explore the coop/run forums. You can post under "where am I, where are you" forum to get some input from folks in your area on how they house and manage flocks in your area.

I have 1 100% Icelandic, 5 1/2 Icelandic mixes (austrolope, wyandotte,Easter egger)
Plus I bought four:
2 100% austrolopes, 1 buff orpington, and 1 silver lace wyandotte.
Thanks for all the welcomes and info!

Ooh, I'm envious. I would love to have some Icelandics, but they are relatively rare and expensive, and no one ships them to where I live. You have some great breeds. Australorps are my favorite standard breed (I haven't had Icelandics to compare with them). I've raised Australorps for years (along with dozens of other breeds), and they are extremely hardy, calm and gentle (my children and granddaughter made lap pets of them), and excellent layers of large, brown eggs. Good luck with your flock.
