Update. I usually only have the light on at night now I am in south central Texas so it's pretty warm during the day. We had a front come through yesterday so it was a bit chilly this morning. definitely not warm enough to be without their light. We left for church and it warmed up. When I got home and checked on them she was barely with it. Lying on her side and panting. I unplugged the light and got her out and into the house quickly. She couldn't stand up or even hold herself upright when down. I gave her some sugar water and that seemed to perk her up a bit. I decided to make her a brooder in a tote with food and water and keep her in the house with me. She's just not developed enough to be in the outside brooder coop with the others. Not quite as able to regulate her temp and the other girls. right now she's in her little brooder infant of the window and resting with her head down. she does raise her head and chirp occasionally. I really hope she's going to be ok.(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I am not new to chickens. This is my second flock and I was involved in my dad's flock years ago. Unfortunately I had to rehome my first flock when I moved states in 2017. I am excited to start my second flock.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? I have 11 chicks that are about 4 weeks old.
(3) What breeds do you have? I have ISA Browns, Golden Star, Jersey Blue Giants, Barred Rock,Blue cuckoo Maran, Cuckoo Maran, and Delaware,
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? I love the eggs of course and I love interacting with my flock. My first flock would run to me every day when I got home from work and follow me around my yard.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies? I love all things British and watch several British programs, I love Duran Duran, And I love going to church to worship Yeshua.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. I am married and between us we have 6 kids all adults but two still live at home. We also have three dogs, two corgis and a lab mix, and three cats, and a guinea pig. A small zoo, LOL
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?I came across BYC on the internet somewhere, can't remember. I joined because I want to learn more about chickensView attachment 4113520 and I have questions about one of my flock.
To get her to eat and get some hydration at the same time, I'd offer her a little tiny dish of wet crumbles. Chicks really love that!Update.
