New chicken mom here. I have always dreamed of a farm but life took me a different way so I decided recently it was now or never for chickens as I am a “senior” 😁. I have 6 Rhode Island reds who are one week today. They are living in our spare bathroom right now. I asked my grandchildren to name them so the five year old chose Cutie Pie, her 3 year old sister chose Cutie, my three year old twin grandsons chose Jacky and Rockstar. Hubby named one Reba and I picked Nugget. Unfortunately we lost two of the original six but got two more so I am at six which is my zoning limit. (I live in Chesterfield County VA. (Near Richmond). I am so excited and look forward to learning lots as my girls grow.

Congratulations on getting your chicks; I bet the grandkids LOVE to hang out in the spare bathroom now. I think Rhode Island Reds are lovely birds. My RIR was named Ginger Rogers because she didn't just scratch for her food, she DANCED.

Welcome to BYC, where you will find plenty of support, encouragement, knowledge and just plain fun during your chicken adventures!
