New chicken mom

Update: Butterscotch has a new friend. Marmalade's flockmates were killed by predators and so she was rehomed with us. The girls have been together for about 5 hours now and while they are squawking up a storm, there's been almost no pecking at each other. We're keeping watch to make sure neither one picks on the other, but so far so good. Butterscotch is the larger, following Marmalade around in the pic.View attachment 3596539

It's nice that they have each other now and not lonely. It's kind of sad of the circumstances that brought them together.

Welcome. I advocate getting hens from sanctuaries as rescues. Also, for tight security, replace the chicken wire with hardware cloth and put a 2 foot hardware cloth apron around the perimeter to protect from digging predators.
