It has been 4 months since the start of our new family's adventure and how fun! We purchased our new members early April 2017. 5 cute Easter Eggers came home with us from a local and reputable company. The adventure began that evening when our town and specifically our neighborhood had a F1 tornado. No injuries or damage to our house but as new 4 day old chick owners it was pretty scary. No power! How do we keep them warm?? Thanks to our middle son - we soon found wonderful member information on BYC to help us through that next 18 hours! I read everyday!

It's been just over 4 months and our first girl "Bella" just laid her first egg!! Greenish/blue. Yippee. Miss Graybeard will be next- already sitting in nesting box!

Keep the information flowing! It's been so valuable

Hi and welcome to BYC - thanks for joining us and congrats on your first egg :)

Here’s a link to the Articles section - https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/ There you’ll find lots of information on almost every aspect of keeping chickens - from coop building ideas, to incubating eggs.

There’s a link on the page above to the Learning Centre - it’s a great resource. If you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

Each week, various topics are discussed, which can also be a great resource - https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/topic-of-the-week-thread-archive

You may wish to consider joining your state thread as it will put you in touch with other BYC members in your area - http://www.backyardchickens.com/t/270925/find-your-states-thread#post_3239224
