Hi, everyone,
My name is Christine, and I'm a new chicken momma!
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
We never had chickens growing up. My grandmother had a couple of guineas. But my husband and I recently bought some acreage and we just got our first chickens and we are already loving them.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We have 12 hens and a rooster.
(3) What breeds do you have?
We are still figuring out the breeds. The person who sold us the pulletts has hundreds of chickens, and they are just all kind of mixed up. I know that we have at least one Ameracauna.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
So far, it's just interacting with them. They are interesting little creatures. I'm getting to know their personalities. I enjoy listening to all of the different little noises that they make.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I have a large extended family and when we're not in a pandemic, we enjoy spending lots of time together playing board games, eating, drinking coffee and just having long, boisterous conversations. My husband and I bought 45 Acres one year ago and we have been getting it under control and getting it back to pasture stage so we spend most of our extra time on the property spraying and weeding and fixing fences and all sorts of other types of work.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
We also have two spoiled pups, Prudence and Chichi. We both currently work about an hour away from where we live and are driving back and forth to the city for work until we get the farm to a production stage and can finally stay and be on our property and farm and retire in the hopefully not too distant future.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I just found by see when I was searching for answers about why my rooster might be opening his mouth to crow and nothing was coming out.
