Hi magpiesing here

Have been to this site several times...great info, so decided to join. I was given 12 hens, I think they are rhode islands. Plus a rooster and 4 show hens. And 8 peepers (chicks). I live in southeast Texas. The birds will free range on my 4 acres.
As it has started to get cold my chicks have shown signs of congestion. Been using cider vinegar (with the muther)
as well as chick starter food. Unfortunately I have lost two chicks. The chicks are about 4-6 weeks old as they hatched at different times. The chicks are being brooded by two hens. The chicken house (10x16) is closed at night, they have roosts and boxes off the ground and a thick layer of chips on the ground and I have heat lights on so it stays warmer. Is that enough heat for the chicks? Anything else I should do for them? My hens are still laying about 8-9 eggs a day. I.m a sponge for chicken knowledge so will appreciate any input. Even my husband is having fun with them. We like to sit in the afternoon and have coffee while we watch our flock.
Thanks
