Not sure, but I think the one on the left is a rooster and the one on the right is a hen. Any ideas? They are about a week apart. Also anyone know what kind of chickens they are? Or should I just call them "yard chickens"? These were free from a friend, and a good introduction to chickens. The one on the right got attacked and bloodied up several weeks ago by the one on the left. Thus the bald spot at the top of the head. Every since we put them in the yard/coop they have gotten along fine.

Yard chickens would be perfect for unknown ancestry. Your description of behavior plus the appearence seems to indicate they may be part or maybe all "game chicken"... the kind used in cockfights. They are prone to get in hard fights with their brood-mates from very early on. Often they will settle it out but once they hit breeding age (4-6 months) the boys may start to fight seriously again and may or may not settle it out afterwards.

Unfortunately both of your birds are boys, from their color pattern. It would be best to prepare for separating them in the future or make it an one roo only flock.
