Hi Everyone! Every time I Google my chicken questions, I keep finding the best answers here, so I figured I'd better join!
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? Very new. We got our first baby chicks in the middle of June and have added a variety of chicks since.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? We have 36. A fair number were straight runs so we expect to pair down some roosters eventually.
(3) What breeds do you have? Black Australorp, Amber Link, Marans, Wyandottes, Salmon Faverolles, Sapphire Gem, Rhode Island Red, Leghorn, Sebright, Satins, Silkies, one that I think is an Old English Game, lots of Easter Eggers. I had read chickens expect chickens to look like what they're raised with. So I thought I'd start them out with a variety right away.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? I'm really enjoying the whole process so far. There's a lot to learn. I'm hoping to play with genetics and raise some of our own chicks next year. But finding out you can get a variety of colors in your eggs is what drew me in!
(5) What are some of your other hobbies? I enjoy a variety of hand crafts from crochet to diamond painting. Sewing. Reading. Documentaries.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. We have three children and just moved onto a few acres last year. We're still settling in and just starting to get our feet wet in country life.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
