New chicken owner!

Hi there! I have learned so much from this site all winter long and I am so excited to be raising chickens. I want it to be a fun exciting hobby for the wife and I and future kids! I built a brodder and have it in my garage.

it has four compartments in it seperated by wire in the middle. it was for keeping breeds seperate as chicks and as they get bigger I can pull out dividers to make two large compartments.
these are my chicks.

10 gold links. all hens for egg laying

6 jumbo cornish cross.

that was 4 weeks ago and they are so much bigger now! feathers coming in nicely.

I have got it all wired top and sides now and need to get the coop painted soon

I have worked really hard on this and researched alot from this page. I want this to be a fun and exciting hobby like I said. any pointers or feedback would be great!!!! A couple quik questions I have are, I have the jumbo cornish crosses and gold links seperated right now in brooder, but can they be together in the coop and run? How long untill they go out there aswell? They have most their feathers. Thanks!!!!!!

Hello from Oregon and welcome to BYC. Love all the pics. Looks like you did a great job. Don't know how warm it is where you are but they can go out when they are fully feathered. They should all do fine together as long as you have enough room in your run area. Best of luck

your brooder is so well thought out I hope you will start a new thread with lots of pictures of descriptions of what you have done - so others can benefit from it. Are you a carpenter

Sure looks like it. Your meaties will do best in their own run and unless you process very early - you can extend their life and make them healthier if you put the feeder a distance away so they have to walk to it. Instead of just sitting by the bowl and stuffing themselves to death. I also hear it's better to feed them 12 hours on and 12 hours with no food
