Hi everyone! This year my family and I decided to build a chicken coop and try to raise some chickens for eggs and maybe meat this spring.

We tried to build a coop that looked like a Carolina coop. It was a fun time! I look forward to learning as much as we can.

Hello, and welcome to BYC. Nice coop and pen. Does it have a hardware cloth skirt around the base?
Not yet. As of right now I have to screw a piece of plexiglass over the coop door at night and take it off in the morning. We had a bunch of things pop up. It’s definitely on my to do list especially since I’ve probably spent more time putting that “door” on and off than it would take to staple a predator apron on! 😂

Welcome!
Your set up is cute. How many birds do you have?

Your coop is going to get small quick but You completely predator proof your run so they have access to it 24/7 they should do okay.

We have 16 birds right now. 7 isa browns and 9 mystery chickens that were supposed to be Brahmas but I don’t think they are.

Welcome! Will they have access to the yard? My Shepard is a good watch dog too!
Yes! Our plan is to let them free range ASAP. Both of our neighbors have free range chickens and our doggo does good with them. Did you have to do any special training with your pup to get them used to them?
