actually it was more like it opened it's mouth and I walked in - it didn't bite or hurt me - which is why I thought it was cool, and not scary.

She will be fine. Chickens eat other animals all the time. They even eat each other some times. So no worries there.

I wish I could let mine free range...then I could walk the lawn and garden without stinky grass snakes shooting all over the place.

My think the little earth snakes they find are a great treat. A big one is about the size of a pencil, and it makes a great chickie tug-of-war toy.
