Hi all,
My wife and I are new Chicken parents as of 3/5. I used to raise ducks as a kid but from what I've learned from my oldest daughter, "Chicken Lady" is that the peeps are more sensitive to raise than ducks so taking every precaution necessary to make sure they're healthy.

We have a total of 8 chicks starting out to be used as layers only.
4 sexlets, 2 leghorns, and 2 Califonia Whites.

I'm a bird lover so of course I'm the one that goes and hold and check on them and now and then give them a meal worm treat. Love it!
I have a lot of hobbies! Musician (piano, guitar), computer nerd (Work in IT), tabletop miniature wargaming, computer gaming....

I have a few dogs, a 4 year old female shepherd mix, 2 yr old golden-doodle, and 4 yr old pug. The little golden-doodle has taken interest in the babies and loves visiting them. We're keeping a close eye on him always and can't really trust canine instinct so he's always monitored around the chickies. The rest of the pups don't care.

I was referred to this site by my oldest daughter who has done an amazing job raising her own chickens to healthy adult layers. Unfortunately, her property management found out and forced her to find a temporary home to them until them were able to find a place to get them back. It just so happened that the folks that promised to take good care of them, left the door open to the coupe and allowed a predator to carry them off.... So now she's helping us out and being very involved in raising the little guys.

My wife are really excited for this new chapter as we're empty nesters and are looking forward to raising a new extension to our family. Thank you so much for allowing me to be a part of this group...

Cheers,
AL
