Hi All! I just found this site and wanted to introduce myself. I am new to chicken raising and wish I had found this site prior to starting but at least now I know where to go for answers to my questions. I am actually raising the chickens with a friend who has some acreage. Here is some pics of the coop. Again I could have used this site when planning this coop but we will see how it works.

You will have to explain your plans and how you made that coop - it's very nifty as well as sturdy looking. You did a great job!

The coop was a modified design of a coop I saw for sale. The enclosed area is 4'x12'x8'h. It has perches and 10 laying boxes 12"x12" and pass thru doors. The run is 12'x12'x8' and has a door to exit. I did not insulate the inside since the winters are warm here.

We started with 12 chicks minus one who came up with splayed legs. The remaining 11 are now about 16 weeks old. Also we got what we thought were 2 hens and a roo that were older. Something killed the Roo and now we have discovered one of the supposed older hens is really a roo. So now we have 5 RIR, 3 amerucanas, 2 Barred Rocks 2 Buff Orphingtons and 1 Black Astrulop for 13 total. We let them free range during the day and the go back in the run at night.

So far we have not seen any eggs but I think we are very close. The older hens bottoms are nice and wide and plump. I think they have started to practice sitting
