I don't usually tout a pending project but I have waited on this for about 4 weeks now. My cousin and brother are coming over today to help me build a brooder for my new chicks due from Ideal on 3/18/11. This will be a bit more complex than a box that was used in the house last year. The DW has stated that the house is verbotten for brooding this year, so I have to make a brooder that will function outdoors. I plan on using these supplies for the project:

Then I will build the adult coop from an A-frame of a swingset that I was given earlier:

As you can see, I've got a good amount of work for my flock today! Hope the brooders are done this day, but I know that the coop will take another day or three to complete, as will the run! My fingers are crossed!!

How big is that swing set?
That will make a brilliant coop. Maybe put a floor half way up and use hardwire cloth on the bottom half. That way you'll have a HUGE tractor.

I have a swing set knocking about in ine of the sheds, I might give this a go myself.

I believe that I measured 6' x 12' at the base and about 7.5' high at the crossbeam. I do plan to enclose the base under the crosstie supports for the run, and may even make the run larger by extending them to the side. That will make the frame a permanent structure rather than a tractor. Either would be good for my purposes! The trailer in the snow pic is a 16' long one, for reference.
