New "Chicken Tender"

Hiya, and welcome to BYC! :frow

Gosh, that's so sad about your mom. I'm sorry! :hugs

Yes, we take chickens camping with us. Two years in a row, a few years ago, we took a hen that had chicks. Where we go is like a triple lot on a lake in the boonies of MN so they free-ranged for a little while until the families with dogs showed up. Then put them in a giant screen tent we bring along.

Last year, we had three-week-old chicks in the brooder, so we packed them up in a wire cage and a hot water bottle and brought the screen tent again. I was worried about coccidiosis with different dirt/grass, so I ran out and bought medicated feed for them and started that a few days before we left. I have no clue if that helped or not, but they didn't get sick. Since the temps were in the 80s during the day and 70s at night, they really didn't need any heat, but we brought the generator along anyway and used it one night for their heating pad.

We have a good farmer across the road that will let all the adults out in the morning and comes back at night to shut the doors.
