They're here !!! I just received my chicks from MPC. Thanks to this site I was very well prepared for them and all are drinking & eating so far and seem healthy.

I'm new at this so this maybe somewhere on this site somewhere. The problem is that one of my chicks has poop stuck to the top of her head. I've read how to soak it off their butts, but what do you do when it's stuck to their head? Didn't know if I should wait a day and let her recover from her trip before I try to remove it?

I've never had birds before now. So any advise will be welcomed.

If she were mine, as long as the others aren't pecking at the poop out of curiosity and hurting her, I would leave it today and let her get settled in. Tomorrow you could try a warm wet (wetter than damp but not dripping wet, kwim?) paper towel or washcloth and very gently try to remove it. You may have to put a drop or two of the warm water right on the spot and let it sit for a minute or two to soften it up. Good luck and congrats on your new babies!

one of mine had it one her back no one was pecking at her but i decided to clean it off anyway but by the time i came back out with a warm rag it was gone mine are pretty good at keeping clean and helping each other keep clean

The hatchery must have sent you one of their rare breeds......It's called a Sh*% Head......

btw: we got 2 orders a few years ago, from mpc..... very happy over here!

We're newbies too!!! We had one of our 4 RIR chicks with something on her head when they were shipped. I did wait a few days but it annoyed me (and DH kept calling her poophead).

I used a warm, damp paper towel. I cleaned her under the heat lamp and held her under it for a bit until she seemed dry again. That was last week and she's still fine.

Of course...we've named her Schmootz. The other 3 (Potpie, Noodles & McNugget) never bothered her.

Happy Chick Raising!!
