We had some grown Red Stars, Black Stars and a Leghorn for about a year that we gave away last month because we were leaving on vacation. Note: We live just outside the IDL but still see fox from time to time and have also seen raccoons and opossums. The hens need to be safely locked up at night and let out in the mornings.
I am missing having chickens so have ordered a group of chicks from McMurray (White & Brown Leghorns; Rhode Island Reds, Blue Andalusians, a Buttercup, and a mystery exotic chick)
I will need to find homes for most of them since we can only keep 6 adults in the City of Tulsa, but am not sure yet which breed(s) I want to keep as pets/egg layers.
Question #1: How old must young chickens be before being re-homed?
Question #2: Do any of you know of any place in the Tulsa area that is like a kennel for dogs, except for chickens? I'd like to have a safe place to take them going forward when I have to be out-of-town.
Thanks.
