New chicks nearby—why is my ropster-quail crowing?

Hi there,

I’m new to the forum, but have a question about my quail. My main birds are just one male and 3 females. I recently hatched some more, but only 2 survived. They are about 4-5 weeks old now and they live in a coop next to my other quail. I dont know if the newbies are boys or girls yet .

anyhow, my male Has started crowing like crazy today. Usually, he only crows at night. At least, I THINK it’s my original male...

Could he be crowing because the new ones are female, and he’s wondering how to get to them? Or to say hello?

It’s not safe to mix the new ones in the the OG quail, right? There’s plenty of room in the coop, but I thought the big ones would hurt the small ones.

Anyway, would love to hear feedback. Thanks!

He could be crowing because there's new quails around (male or female).

If they're only 4-5 weeks old, I wouldn't introduce them yet. If you want to put them with your other quails, I would wait until they're at least 6 weeks old.

I checked the two young ones, trying to see if either was a boy. Can‘t tell yet. Neither had any foam. one vent seemed particularly “open,” but...maybe the crowing is from one of the new babies?

I guess we will find out! I just dont want to find out the hard way, as in with one over-breeding the other. :/
