I just got my new batch of chicks on Thursday. One of them, a white leghorn, tends to want to sit down a lot. She can pop right up, she walks fine, eats and drinks, etc., but when the rest of them are running around or scratching, she just sits down. Is this cause for concern, or do I just have a really lazy chick? :)

Hi, how is your lazy chick now? My 3 week old buff orpington is exactly the same. She likes to lounge constantly. I thought at first that she had cocci so I put all four on Sulmed even though there weren't any real symptoms besides her apparent lethargy. She seems to be eating and drinking adequately, is getting big, and seems to walk and move fine, but she sits right down when she is not eating. In contrast, the other three are active, especially the Easter Egger who is always jumping on and off the top of the feeder. I'm wondering if she is not feeling well or if this is just her temperament. Any thoughts?

Hi there,
Just wondering what the outcome was for your chick?
I have a Welsummer who is behaving exactly the same way...seems to be growing just fine and happy, but flops down to rest every opportunity.. any advice welcome!
She is 2 weeks old.
Thanks

Old thread but I just had the exact thing with my cream legbar chick and I was really concerned because I really didn't want to lose her. I cleaned her vent (which was needed I found) and she was super sluggish and tired before and after. Added a little elcetrolyte to the water gave them fine chopped boiled egg and added a heater in the garage in addition to the brooder light. Also decided not to handle her at all for a few days and keep my loud children away from them. She perked up and is one of the liveliest in the bunch after 24hrs. Give it a try.
