I'm not sure whether this is the right location for this post, but anyway.
My two chickens were caught by a red tailed hawk a few days ago :hit and I want new chicks. We only have space for four. I want a Rhode island red and an Americana for sure, but i wanted two more breeds, another good layer and another pretty egger. I heard leghorns lay very well, and i want a brown one because they will camouflage better. I want a maran, too, for the dark eggs. But I heard that black australorps lay very well, too, and their eggs are brown instead of the leghorn's white, which I would like better. What would you say? I heard also that barnevelders lay dark eggs, and their feather color is more appealing than a maran's. Anyway, can you advuse me on this? Thanks so much

I'm so sorry for your loss, last year my chicken and I had an incident with a red tailed hawk but thankfully we both survived. <3 I would strongly recommend Americanas, they are very kind and lay beautiful blue green eggs. Australorps also lay very well in my experience, same with Rhode Island Red chickens. The kindest chicken in my opinion that I have had would be a Sicilian Buttercup. They are very loving, beautiful, and lay well. Their eggs are white though so if you are wanting colored eggs my top would be Americana chickens. I hope this helps! :frow

I had an Americana and a Rhode island, and I loved them. Just trying to decide between the other four kinds
