Is it to late to start new chicks to be old enough to handle the winter if I get them right now? I will be "thinning" the flock here in a couple weeks and wold like to add more hens to replace the boys that are freezer bound. I would like GLW and Lt Brhm hens. This brings out the second question. Where is the best place to get the right bird and the right gender? Thanks ahead of time.

I don't think it is too late in the season. They will be good an feathered out by November. I would try a place like Murray McMurray Hatchery or Ideal or do a search for hatcheries in your area. Here is a list of hatcheries that I found on Poultry Connection: http://www.poultryconnection.com/hatchery.html You may also be able to find some at your local feed store. They may be able to order exactly what you want. Good luck!
