Well, the local milling company called me and told me that they were getting chicks in today, and I just couldn't help myself...I just got home with 2 barred rocks, 2 ameraucanas, and 4 delawares!!! Like I need more laying hens right? Anyway, I'm getting ready to run to the pet store to get some water bottles, when I get back I will take and post lotsa peep pics! Now I have motivation to build that new coop I guess

I wish I could find americaunas somewhere local!!!!

Sorry, I've been watching chickies all afternoon, there's nothing quite as cute as day-olds! I'm finally getting around to posting a few pics, maybe I'll make this post a flock diary

They're addictive aren't they!

Catfish:
This has been the best brooder setup I've ever used. The bigger one in the garage won't be used until they are at least a week old, maybe two. The first few clutches I raised did not thrive as well in a large brooder, I always lost one or two within a week from failure to thrive. I switched to the smaller one, and haven't lost one chick out of 3 clutches yet! (This is the fourth). Not sure what the closeness of the chicks has to do with thriving issues, but we're gonna stick with what works.

Very cute chicks! Your Ameraucana in the photo has similar markings to one of my "assorted" Ameraucana, do you know what colouring that is?
