(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

I have no chickens yet! I am just in the process of moving back to Citrus Heights from New York City, and I'm desperately craving a return to an agricultural setting. I plan on gardening and getting a few chickens, but at the moment i'm in the educational phase where I'm trying to learn about chickens.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

0-- nada. I hope to keep about 3-4 eventually.

(3) What breeds do you have?

This is where I hope to hear about the breeds people in the Sacramento area prefer. I'm sure heat is a factor in which breeds tolerate the climate. Open to hearing people's favorites.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

I'm excited by the prospect of fresh eggs. I also just love animals. I've had horses, dogs, cats, rabbits, mice, fish, donkeys, etc.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

I used to ride horses, but don't have much time for that anymore. I also write fiction and love taking walks in nature.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

I have a gentle little cat named "Fluffy" who is pretty much exactly how that name sounds.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D

I found the conversation about how keeping chickens in Citrus Heights came to be (THANK YOU!) and decided this would be a great community to get started learning about chickens before I get them.

Hi and welcome to BYC you picked the right place to learn most chickens adjust to climate changes easily as long as they get plenty of shade, water and food and lots and lots of love they are good i live in Northern Ohio and it get crazy hot and crazy cold here my chickens, ducks, geese, turkey, guinea and quail all adjust to the weather you just need to make sure that they have lots of water, food and shade
