Aloha! We are new to raising chickens, but I have ALWAYS wanted to. I'm mom to 4 children, 2 dogs, 2 cats, fish and now nine 10 day old chicks. We live in Pacific Palisades, Hawaii on a perimeter lot. Our backyard ends and conservation land begins. My husband is a contractor, so we plan to build our own coop and nesting boxes. I want to free range as much as possible, but before I do that want to keep them in a run until they are coop trained at night (or else my 60 year old mango tree will become their home ).

All 6 of us are so in love with these little chicks. We bought 8 at first thinking that if any are Roosters we'd still have a fair number. But as we were leaving, Waimanalo Feed offered us a small chick that wasn't thriving. I'm happy to report that after about 48 hours of babying, Bernadette is doing SO WELL and has just the sweetest temperament.

As we are so new to this, I'm addicted to researching everything I can. I'm so excited to be in this group and plan to pick your brains a LOT. So, apologies ahead of time.

Thanks, EVERYONE, for the really warm welcome! We have a mix of Rhode Island Reds, White Leghorns, Red Sexlinks, Silver Lace Wyandottes, Americaunas, and Buff Orpingtons. I basically let my 4 girls pick 2 each.
