We just bought 4 (5 including a roo) cochin hens, they are 15 months old. we've had them a week and they have'nt layed an egg one (which we expected) how long will it take before they start to lay again?

They could be still stress , (via-shipping, car drive , any mode of transportation ) . I would give them up to two weeks and if they still arent laying , idk what to say .. ANYONE BUMP

My chickens were stressed for 2 days and went back to laying

Cochins can take their time getting to know a new place. They have to be very comfortable to lay regularly. My standards are much more consistent layers than my banties.
Once they do start laying they should go on a good while until they start molting.
They just need to be very stress free.

usually takes about 2 weeks for any hen to start laying, some things that can delay is moving, the stress of being in a new place, and anything else can delay laying... it took my little 1 year old cochin almost 5 weeks to start laying after i got her

We just got 7 hens (actually 2 are pullets) that were laying before we got them (the hens, not the pullets, yet). We've had them for 3 weeks now and two of them just started laying over this past week (1 buff orp, and one cochin). The Cochin actually just started laying 3 days ago (2 days in a row, and then nothing today). The other 3 hens still have yet to lay (2 bantams, 1 polish), so we're gonna give a couple more weeks and see what happens I guess. DH is getting pretty impatient though, and ready to give the bantams up...

So, all that said, I'd give it at least 2-3 weeks to allow them to settle in, and to allow you to finally throw your hands up in despair and say "they'll never lay!"... Then they probably will, lol. We pretty much gave up and went out of town for the weekend, came home to find 3 eggs
