Hey guys! My wife picked up a store bought coop which was said to hold 12 chickens but obviously seemed too small for that amount once we set it up. Then her chicken addiction started and she bought 23 birds. The coop was fine for them while they were little but I could see that they started outgrowing I rapidly so had to act fast. I picked up running gear for a hay wagon and built a coop that could roll so I can move it around on our property. I put linoleum down on the floor and built it 8’x12’. The roosts are made of 2x4s with the 4” side horizontal and 3’,4’,5’ respectively. I have room for 12 nesting boxes but have only added 6 for now. The chickens love their new home!

Wow! That's a really nice coop! I really wanted to make mine a rolling coop but I don't know how to yet :idunnoworking on it..
My gosh, you wife has BEAUTIFUL birds!! What kind of ducks are those? I really like them! And her EE are gorgeous:love

Hi thanks!

These are crested ducks. They are really messy so might have to build them their own little house.

Why didn't you use purlins across the joists to attach the roofing? That lid on your nest boxes is gonna be real heavy to lift off to get eggs.

The lid isn’t hard to lift at all. I am not a carpenter and don’t know what purlins are? I whipped this coop up as I went.

That's pretty sweet!

The roof is a bit funky...is it sloped?
Rafters should be on edge for span strength, this also leave nice space for ventilation all along the eaves, then purlins(~1x3's) go across rafters and metal roofing is screwed into purlins.
Metal roofs in cold climates do better with foam board insulation between purlins and metal to reduce condensation dripping inside.

Lid to nests may leak along hinged edge....but 6 nests is plenty for 23 birds.

In addition to other comments that's a nice overhang over the nest boxes. I had to add an overhang over mine due to the problems trying to seal the lid from rain and snow and ice.

Yes, good to see overhangs, eh?
Might not cover the big gap and lid bow tho.
