I constructed the run this weekend.
Photo attached.
Every window on the coop and 5 sides of the run cube (all but the ground) will be covered 360 degrees in 1/2” Hardware cloth (and tunnel from coop to run) so I have one continuous coon proof enclosure coop and run, with chickens having unlimited open door access to the run after they are ready.
I ordered chicks for June 04 week, now I am waiting for 3 dry days so I can put some coats of paint and roofing shingles on! I am really frustrated by 8 days of rain and 8 more in the 10 day forecast!
We ordered day old chick hens:
barred rock
Buff chantecler
Buff Orpington
New hampshire red
Delaware
I will have a vertical nipple waterer in the coop as well as PVC elbow style feeder, and a mama heating pad, utilizing the entire 4x6 coop as a “brooder” and giving them limited access to the run after 2-3 weeks and likely unlimited access by 6-7 weeks, if they’ve demonstrated understanding of the coop as evening Home.
