New Coop Owner , Soon Chickens Too

I constructed the run this weekend.

Photo attached.

Every window on the coop and 5 sides of the run cube (all but the ground) will be covered 360 degrees in 1/2” Hardware cloth (and tunnel from coop to run) so I have one continuous coon proof enclosure coop and run, with chickens having unlimited open door access to the run after they are ready.

I ordered chicks for June 04 week, now I am waiting for 3 dry days so I can put some coats of paint and roofing shingles on! I am really frustrated by 8 days of rain and 8 more in the 10 day forecast!

We ordered day old chick hens:

barred rock
Buff chantecler
Buff Orpington
New hampshire red
Delaware

I will have a vertical nipple waterer in the coop as well as PVC elbow style feeder, and a mama heating pad, utilizing the entire 4x6 coop as a “brooder” and giving them limited access to the run after 2-3 weeks and likely unlimited access by 6-7 weeks, if they’ve demonstrated understanding of the coop as evening Home.

Your all set, just add chicks :jumpy Your chicks will do great with the MHP. I used wood blocks the first time I used my MHP, then I changed to a cookie rack and used carriage bolts for adjusting. Is that an opening in the cloth between the tape? If it is, tape it closed a chick may find it, climb in and suffocate. Chicks find the darnedest things, to get in trouble. I would also make a platform to sit the chick feeder up on, it will help keep the bedding out.

I actually saw your photo of the cookie rack and that is what my MHP is on. However I was already 82 dollars over budget on the whole job which is why I screwed it to blocks instead of the carriage bolts. I will definitely tape the gap shut, thank you!

I only plan on using the chick feeder for a few days before switching to this, hanging.
