Day #22 - 6AM

Two more have hatched. The incubator is silent, the hatch may be over but I'm going to give the rest of the eggs an extra day or so & see what happens. Here's the updated hatch list.

From egg supplier #1 the following have hatched

Spangle #1, #2, #3
Self Blue #1, #2
Silver Duckwing #1, #2

28 out of 47 shipped eBay eggs, a 60% hatch rate, not bad.

Well the hatch is over, here are the final numbers to bring this thread to an end. Again, to see who "supplier #1" & "supplier #2" is please see the first post in this thread.

From egg supplier #1 the following have hatched

Spangle #1, #2, #3
Self Blue #1, #2
Silver Duckwing #1, #2
Belgian Quail D'Anvers #1, #2
Crele #1, #2
Partridge Cochin #1, #2
Red Cochin #1, #2, #3
Self Blue dUccle #1, #2, #3
Black Breasted Red #1
Mille Fluer #1
Buff Cochin #1
Birchen #1, #2

Out of 36 eggs from this supplier 1 egg was found to be cracked when moving it to the hatching tray, so 35 made it to the hatcher. Today I candled all the remaining eggs and found that 5 never started, the rest stopped developing for unknown reasons at various stages of incubation. So the numbers are -

36 total purchased & shipped to me at a cost of $32
24 Hatched
Hatch Rate = 67%
Cost Per Hatched Chick = $1.33 each not including cost to run incubator.

From egg supplier #2 the following have hatched

BB Red #1, #2
Crele #1, #2, #3

Out of 12 eggs from this supplier all 12 made it into the hatching tray. Here are the numbers -

12 eggs total purchased and shipped to me at a cost of $17
5 Hatched
Hatch Rate = 42%
Cost Per Hatched Chick = $3.40 each not including cost to run incubator.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Put it all together and here's the final tally

48 eggs purchased & shipped at a cost of $49
29 Hatched
Hatch Rate = 60.4%
Cost per hatched chick = $1.69 each not including cost to run incubator.

Overall I would consider this to be a success. The hatch rate is a little above average for what I would expect from shipped eggs purchased on eBay. It's been fun, thanks to all of you who have shared the journey and provided your expertise and comments along the way.

Happy Hatching!!

Matt

Well, reading this thread has just about decided me to get a Dickey. I was wanting an Octagon 40, but the exchange rate has gotten so bad they cost as much as the Dickey does now so I may as well get one. Thanks for posting all of this!

You won't be sorry you bought a Dickey Alan. You'll get a great incubator that will hold a lot more eggs that the O-40, plus you'll get a hatching tray and you'll gain the ability to run multiple hatches at the same time. You'll really like it!
