Hi all,
This week my husband and I made some enclosure updates as we prepare for our flocks first upcoming winter.
We just finished treating all 3 gals for bumble foot all week (minor cases caught early) so they were in our garage hospital ward for a bit.
Since our enclosure became a mud pit thanks to weeks of heavy rain-We added a layer of sand followed by 2” of pea gravel to eliminate the mud and help with drainage. (Photo of after we finished laying all the gravel

We’re also installing better support posts to put up our new half - roof this week.
I’m hoping the gravel works better than what we had, as the stagnant mud was hard to clean and I think caused the bumble outbreak. We added a layer of chopped wheat straw over the half by their house for comfort, but are keeping the “un-roofed” pool half gravel only for better moisture control.
Any other enclosure tips and tricks for winter in zone 6B?
