New Duck Mama

I am raising my very first ducklings. I have seven 4 day old Blue Swedish in a 4tfX2ft brooder box. It's 1/2 of an 8 foot brooder. I have 4 chicks in the other side.
How long will a 4x8 brooder work?
Do I need food sitting right next to the waterer? Or can the food be set away from the water?

At this age, I like to have the food next to the water, but once they get a little older it's not so important.

Thanks. I took the lid off of their feeder too, and put it close to the water. The way they weren't crazy for it makes me think the lid was confusing them.
