Hello everyone!! I just purchased two Pekin ducklings yesterday!! I am sooo excited about having and raising ducks! I personally have never had ducks but have been around them quite a bit and just love the way they act, love water, are sooo cute and funny.. I am researching and learning everything I can and was quite delighted when I found this site! I love that it’s all types chickens, ducks, pheasants etc as I plan on adding a chicken coop later this spring or by next for sure and my man is interested in the guineas (pretty sure I spelled that wrong)...the main reason I wanted ducks is for the pleasure...I also kayak quite regularly and hope I can teach mine to come along...not far..and I would start just right out back the house..I live right on the river...thoughts on this?? I know they make parrot harnesses I’m thinking they probably do for ducks as well??? to help keep them safe..anyways I am also of course hoping to have eggs in the future...only having two and I don’t even know the sexes at this time so I know this will take time tho I plan adding more later...I suspect I have a male and female..ones bigger and the bill is darker and a darker yellow the other is smaller lighter and the bill is paler...but from what I’ve read who knows..time will tell lol...I’m not sure of age but I’m pretty sure they aren’t much more if even two weeks..Their still pretty small maybe even a week idk?? They are inside in a tote we made into a brooder I think that’s what it’s called...my man is building the ,run etc as I write lol he’s happy gave him a project..he resisted at first but he’s cuddling ducks just as much as I am lol..I have found a new ❤️ !!!Sooo excited and happy I’ve been wanting ducks for years and never lived where I could and now I do!!!! How many ducks are too many?? ..I think six would be a good number Anyways hello and I hope too get to know y’all!!! AngieMae

Welcome to BYC Fellow duck momma!!! They are simply adorable, how old are they? Sounds like you're doing everything right. You won't know their sex until at least 7 or so weeks but you may be able to tell by their voices - girls will cheep and are loud whereas boys will sound more like a frog or a 'meep' and they are generally quieter!

It's lovely to meet someone new to ducks. I have two 10 month old ducks and now we have 4 week old ducklings. When I first started I literally didn't have a clue but I've learned so much so fast and you will too!! This site is rife with information on ducks, from coops and runs to food and treats! I hope you enjoy, everyone on here is very helpful and kind and will try to answer as many questions as possible.

I will also do my best to try and help you learn what I have learnt these past few months! Feel free to share lots of pics on the duck forum!!

GracieJ..under two weeks from research I’ve done I’m thinking maybe a little under or about a week..but I’m new to this so not positive....and yes I’m watching their peeps to see when they change same right now I think tho the one I believe is female is louder /talks more...and yes min learning as I go.. one reason why I picked pekins for first time...I’m definitely ready to explore and get to know everyone on the forum!!
