Hello fowl friends!
It’s Brian and I wanted to give you an update on my baby duck. A week and a half old and she is growing like a weed! Lots of energy and attitude. We call her Woodstock because of the tuft of hair on the head. She also jumps, climbs and runs like a roadrunner. She also likes companionship. Falls asleep in my hand or on my arm or with my Russian Tortoise.

Anyway, you were all so helpful I wanted to share with you how my little duckling was doing. And yes, I know I want know the sex until the feathers come in.

By the way. Since we took the egg out of the nest and hatched the egg in an incubator. Will the parents take to it when we introduce them?

Hope you like the pictures.

Brian

No, as far as I know duck mamas don't recognize their genetic offspring, they only recognize ducklings found under them while they're still brooding as their offspring (even if they're not her eggs).

Very cute :love
No, your adults will not recognise it as theirs, and be especially careful of the little one around a drake until it is much bigger.
When I had a single duckling last summer I took him outside with me for visits with the big ducks so they could gradually meet under supervision, then promoted him to a see but not touch pen for a while. By the time he was almost fully grown they had accepted him and I was able to trust them to be together:)
