In the Brooder
If it helps you in your process of deduction, we found our first egg 9/21 (may have been laid 9/20 but we were gone almost all day and went out late at night to close the pop door but didn't check on eggs). Today 9/26 is our 5th egg from what I thought was the same girl. I'd love your input, purely out of curiosity. Also, BO and EE are the only girls squatting. I think the SS's comb and wattle are close to showing her as "ready" by color. The SLW is hard to tell with her small comb but I expect her to be the last one to lay based on comb and wattle color alone. SLW, BO, SS were purchased at the same time from feed store (about 23 weeks). EE is about 1 week younger.
Also, I left the windows open, thinking I would listen for her laying song and then go out and see who's in the coop instead of the run, but no one heard anything! When I went out to check (whoever is laying is laying them fairly early in the morning) the egg was still nice and warm so I know it wasn't too long ago. Is it possible she's a silent layer?!?
